SFU Rocketry Augmented Spark Igniter

Our spark igniter is a compact yet powerful solution designed to ignite our large rocket engine. Achieving the right balance between size and thermal output, we developed an augmented spark igniter that functions similarly to a miniaturized rocket engine. It is activated by a spark plug and utilizes propellants akin to those used in our main engine, streamlining the operational process. This design not only simplifies fuel logistics but also ensures a reliable and efficient ignition system capable of starting our powerful rocket engines under various conditions.

The igniter incorporates a simplified version of our main engine control system, tailored specifically to manage the igniter's operations. This dedicated control system takes commands directly from the main engine's control unit, ensuring synchronized ignition sequences. It also provides critical feedback to the main control system, monitoring the igniter's performance and ensuring its optimal functioning. This streamlined control mechanism allows for precise control over the ignition process, enhancing the reliability and safety of the engine startup procedure. By integrating this focused control system, we maintain tight command over the ignition, allowing for a seamless and efficient start of our rocket engine.
